Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger

I saw the preview release of the new version of Ubuntu Linux, the Breezy Badger. You can see some features here.

Breezy Badger is great. The LTSP is included so we don't have to install and google, OEM versions in order to simplify the preinstallation, GNOME 2.12 with editable menus, configuration for a PC with "dual boot" and many other features that will help newbies.

I have read Mark Shuttleworth's interview (Linux Format of October 2005 or LFX71) and as far as I see, he really is the "Cape Town Crusader". As he says, Ubuntu is controversial. His projects are excellent and when they will be completed, all our efforts about improving Linux will surely be united and they will extend the capabilities of Linux. But, unfortunately (because I don't have much time) you must read his interview in order to understand what I am talking about.

My opinion is that Mark Shuttleworth has transformed the powerfull and maybe "scary" (for newbies, due to the too many packages) Debian Linux into a more human-friendly Linux.

And something that he says and I think we all must remember is "There's nothing an open source team can't do - except do everything"!

Joomla 1.0.1

Within a few days of Joomlas first release, the development team released a new stability version. That's very good even though it does not provide new features but more stability.

You can download the file from here and see the changes here.

Way to go Joomla! Development Team!

I hope that the 3rd party teams will do the same.

Blinkenlights

You can see some pictures from Tim Pritlove's speech in Boulgaria. Just press here.

He showed us a small video about the Project Blinkenlights, another about a conference the Chaos Computer Club arranged and another about Hippies from Hell. All of them were exciting and very interesting.

The project Blinkenlights was a little crazy but that's the point of many CCC's projects. They managed to "convert" the front side of a big building into a matrix screen (or a "small" black/white screen of a mobile phone) by using the phases of the electric current! Another interesting (and not so crazy but very skillfull) project is the Pentabarf, the perfect tool for organazing conferences/workshops.
