PC BSD and Desktop BSD

It seems that soon there will be many BSD distros just like Linux distros. Wow!

For some years there were the 3 main BSD competitives. The user-friendly oriented FreeBSD, the security oriented OpenBSD and the server oriented NetBSD. Now we have a customized FreeBSD, the DesktopBSD. I will download it to give it a try. But there is another competitive...

As I was looking for the DesktopBSD, I found out that there is another BSD distro, the PC BSD, that appeared after Desktop BSD. Although it is a customized FreeBSD like DesktopBSD, it is a little different from the known ports system of FreeBSD. As the FAQs of Desktop BSD says "PC-BSD utilises a new system of installing packages using a *.pbi package". Very interesting and helpful is the fact that you can find an PC BSD ISO for the VMWare player.

I remember one sketch on the (British version of) Linux Format showing someone, the well known Bill Gates, thinking how to name the Microsoft's Linux distro. Was Microsux a good name?

I am wondering...

How should we name our BSD distro?

MediaWiki. Damn UTF-8 ?

So many tests and web-installations of MediaWiki to find out which version doesn't have a problem with UTF-8 (when it creates KEYs that in UTF-8 have length more than 1000bytes).

I reached to the conclusion that MediaWiki 1.5rc4 doesn't have a problem.
Then I followed the instructions by Liquidity for the manual integration with Joomla and the component MamboWiki.

And then I found out that it doesn't work either!

I must mention that I had a small discussion with one of the MamboWiki's developers who said that they got the installation script of mediawiki as it was, so they didn't touch it. This installation script was trying to install Mediawiki 1.4.4 and altough it was recognising many tables of the new installation it halted to some ALTER sql commands.

I may try to install MediaWiki 1.4.4 but not now, I have spent too much time on this.

Google is the winner!

Many days have passed and the FreeMindMaps Community Site is not submitted to any search engine because, from my point of view, it is not ready yet. But in these 12 days the googlebot has visited the site!

Only this bot found us! Google really works. Even if sometimes I use the webcrawler.

FreeMindMaps Community

Well, it took me a lot of time to build the FreeMindMaps Community. Mostly because at the begining I thought that the josCommunity would be the most appropriate. And josCommunity was installed but had a lot of bugs so I was waiting for the next version. And the time was passing. Somewhere in the middle I discovered that the User Home Pages and the Personal Blogs that josCommunity provides wouldn't help. Somehow these webpages could end up an advertising tool. So I started again from zero.

Anyway now it is built but not complete. I am still waiting for Joomla 1.5 and after that I must wait for the updates of all the components and modules that I have installed. I was impressed from what Nikos Kouremenos had said about Wikipedia (that it is updated too fast) so I thought that the first thing I should do is to update the Wikipedia. And so I did. Three hours later I saw that many people had visited the site and there was a registered user! I never thought that this would happen. People from the UK, France, Argentina and other countries visited the site.
Now I must update the site with weblinks something that will take some time since the link exchange is not so easy or fast. And of course I must setup the wiki which must me bridged with Joomla, something also difficult. Anyway, this is our work!

The FreeMindMaps Community wants to serve the community not to become Yet Another MindMapping Site. Click here to check the FAQs.
