GMail Loader

Hello, hello! Long time, no talk!

Let's see something interesting but time-consuming. It took me about 3 hours to load 2000 (and more) e-mails to GMail. The truth is that I could just archive these e-mails by exporting them to my computer instead of loading them to GMail but you can do whatever you like.

First of all you must install the MBoxImport extension to ThunderBird. Click here to download the xpi file. After you install and re-run ThunderBird, first click on the folder with the e-mails you want to export and then click on menu Tools the option "Import/Export Mbox". You will have at least the option "Export folder" (if the folder you chose has subfolders then the option "Export folder with subfolders" will be enabled). After that you must choose where to save the file. The filename will be the name of the folder. Remember the name because you will use it later.

If everything is ok (you will see the proper message) then you can continue to the next step which is to download the GMail Loader (click here for the Windows and here for the Linux version). After you unzip it, you can run it. The application is using SMTP and a specific SMTP Server of GMail. Personally I chose "Requires authentication" and typed my username and my password. After that, you will click the "Find" button, click on the folder you chose previously for the export and choose the filename we mentioned before.

Leave the "File Type" as it is "mBox(Netscape, Mozilla, Thunderbird)" and the "Message Type" probably as it is "Mail I Received (Goes to Inbox)". Then enter your e-mail address and click "Send to GMail". After that go get a coffee or something depending on how many messages you had on the exported file.

Joomla's gift for Christmas

Well... it seems that Joomla's developing team made us a Christmas gift. They had said that version 1.0.5 would be released in November and I was waiting. November passed and so did (almost) December. I was bored visiting their page every day to see if 1.0.5 was released and I stopped that one week ago. So 1 day before Christmas they announced the release of Joomla 1.0.5. I am a little surprised because I didn't expect any gift from Santa Clause.

Anyway, it is something since it is a stability release (click here to see the changelog). Their roadmap shows that in January they will release 1.0.6. Well, I will start looking for this version only after January.

Thank's God we have Santa Clause!

Let's Tango!

To be honest I like to dance tango. Maybe because it is easy or it is a little erotic. But I am not going to talk about the dance (well I would love to but...).

There is something more interesting and helpfull related with the word Tango. It is the Tango Project and it needs all of us. Well... when I say us I mean people who want to help for better desktops, GUIs and things related with graphics. There are many people who don't like graphics or they are using old computers that cannot afford graphics.

The Tango Project is divided into three parts, which are
Style Guidelines,
Standard Icon Naming Specification and
Tango Icon Theme Guidelines .

The people who are involved are engineers, artists and user interface designers, like Ryan Collier,Rodney Dawes,Anna Dirks,Nat Friedman and others (click here to see them all).

It reminds me the freedesktop.org which I think is useful and it will surely unify our efforts for more humane interfaces, better icons and generally a better look'n'feel.

Καθώς κοίταζα το Freshmeat για να απαντήσω στον Δημήτρη Γλέζο ότι ο σχεδιασμός του Sourceforge δε μου αρέσει και τόσο, είδα το Tavli (κάντε κλικ εδώ) .

Portes,Plakoto,Fevga από όλα έχει ο μπαχτσές! Το πιο ωραίο είναι η εικόνα που έχει με το φραπέ! Για να τη δείτε κάντε κλικ εδώ και μετά κλικ στο μενού (έχει javascript και δεν πηγαίνει κατευθείαν). Είναι και τρισδιάστατο.

Mambo 4.5.3

Here is Mambo 4.5.3. As I said in a previous post the new development team - some of them developers of Mambo addons - is getting familiar with the code.
As they are saying this version is a "housecleaning" of the current code before they get to major changes.

Well, for the moment, Joomla is much better and more developed than Mambo and I don't think that Mambo developers can run faster than their predecessors (Joomla developers).

My problem is that some components-modules that work on Mambo don't work on Joomla so I will have to work with both of them. Unless if these addons publish a new version compatible with Joomla. Well I can't do anything else than wait...
